Glossary

Opening – Each specific “space” where woven wire mesh will be installed. This could be a single window, a doorway or an exterior location. Generally speaking, each opening would be each single, continuous piece of woven wire mesh.

Cut & Knuckle – Woven wire mesh coils are held together by a process in which the ends of each coil are cut at a specific point in the coil, and then bent back on themselves to form a knuckle which holds the mesh together.

Floor Allowance – The distance needed between the bottom of the woven wire mesh panel and the floor or bottom of the opening.

Track Allowance – The distance needed between the top of the woven wire mesh panel and the ceiling or top of the opening. This includes any room needed for track or mounting hardware.

Fullness – Properly called “Additional Fullness,” the amount of extra width a mesh panel needs to create the desired visual effect. A perfectly flat panel is considered to have 0% fullness. A panel that is exactly twice as wide as the space in which in hangs is considered to have 100% fullness.

Gauge – The measurement of the diameter of the wire used to create woven wire mesh.

Weave Size – The measurement of the woven wire mesh coil’s diameter. This differs from gauge, in that gauge measures the diameter of the wire itself and weave size measures the diameter of the entire coil.

Finish – The desired final color of the woven wire mesh. This is often the color of paint or anodizing used, but also refers to the color of the nylon in the case of nylon coated wire. Finish also denotes the “look” of the woven wire mesh panel when treated with various processes, such as acid etching.

Mesh – The name of the final woven wire product. Cascade Coil Drapery uses a manufacturing process that creates interlocking coils of wire, which as a whole are referred to as the mesh.

Coil – Cascade Coil Drapery uses a manufacturing process which takes metal wire and mechanically forms it into a spiral shape, known as a coil.

Drapery – For our purposes, drapery is often synonymous with mesh. Woven wire mesh panels which are used in architectural applications are referred to commonly as drapery.

Track – The hardware system that is used to mount woven wire mesh panels so that they can be easily moved along a horizontal plane.

Security Hardware – The typical installed parts and components required to open, close and lock a mesh security gate.
